Glaucoma Surgery

When medication and laser treatments are insufficient to control glaucoma, surgery may be necessary to lower eye pressure and protect your vision. Mr. Trikha is experienced in a range of glaucoma surgical procedures and can determine the most suitable option for your individual needs.

Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)

MIGS procedures utilise tiny devices to improve the eye’s natural drainage system. These procedures offer faster recovery and fewer complications compared to traditional glaucoma surgery. Mr. Trikha is proficient in all MIGS techniques, including:

iStent Surgery:

This tiny implant, less than 2mm long, is placed in the eye’s drainage channel (trabecular meshwork) to enhance fluid outflow. The procedure is often combined with cataract surgery and has a high safety and efficacy profile.

In a recent audit of Mr. Trikha’s patients, iStent surgery resulted in an average eye pressure reduction of 20% with no complications at 6 months.

Xen Gel Stent:

This soft implant creates a new drainage pathway for fluid to exit the eye. It is inserted through a small incision and requires no stitches. The fluid typically forms a small, comfortable “bleb” under the conjunctiva (the thin membrane covering the white of the eye).

PreserFlo MicroShunt:

This innovative device offers a longer-term solution for glaucoma drainage. Contact Mr. Trikha for more information about PreserFlo.

Endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (ECP):

This procedure uses a tiny endoscope and laser to reduce fluid production within the eye. It can be performed during or after cataract surgery.

Trabeculectomy

This traditional glaucoma surgery creates a new opening in the eye wall to allow fluid to drain. While effective, it is a more invasive procedure with a longer recovery time. Mr. Trikha employs meticulous techniques and anti-scarring medication to optimise outcomes and minimise complications.

Baerveldt Tube Shunt

For advanced or complex glaucoma cases, a Baerveldt tube shunt may be necessary. This involves implanting a small tube to drain fluid from the eye to a reservoir beneath the conjunctiva.

Glaucoma operation recovery:

Mr. Trikha provides comprehensive post-operative care to monitor your progress and ensure proper healing. He will provide detailed instructions on medication, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments.
